Based on the client and architect’s needs, we provide a draft
of the shape of the structure. This is termed as ‘form-finding’.
Using manual methods such as soap bubble models, two way stretchable stocking
fabrics and thin nets, the overall form of the structure is determined. The
next step is to visualise the design to be able to present it to the client
in an understandable way. This is done by creating special 3D models, both
computer generated and physical. This gives a much more ‘ten-fingered
grasp’ on the reality of the form and the scale.
Analysis of the tensile and supporting structure
The analysis of the stability is an important and an integral part of the total
study of tensile architecture. Because of the doubly curved fabric, the non-linear
structural analyses and the prestress of the structure, it is extremely difficult
to calculate the load on the supporting structure. To be able to make a safe
design, it is essential to make a load analysis with a dedicated FEM calculation.
Employing manual structural analyses methods, we calculate the stresses, which
are affect the structure and design the parent structures as per the standards
and regulations.
